EULAR Course on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

The
Course is aimed at 70 young rheumatologists (age less than 40
years) and has been designed to provide comprehensive, intensive
training on various aspects of this disease.
The
Course will consist of morning and afternoon sessions that will
address the following topics:
- Therapy of SLE, molecular basis of drug action and pharmacogenetics
- Evaluation of SLE patients: disease activity, damage, response
to therapy
- Renal involvement in SLE
- Neurological involvement in SLE
- Skin involvement in SLE
- Particular problems in SLE: fever, vaccination, pregnancy, hematological
manifestations
In
addition, each day will include a clinical exercise relating to
the day’s topics.
The
course will be held in a unique setting – a beautifully
restored 18th century cloister in San Miniato, a historical town
located half-way between Florence and Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany.

Application:
Participants should forward their application by fax or e-mail
to the Scientific Secretariat no later than June 30th, 2005. Applications
should include a short CV (100-150 words), a list of no more than
5 publications, and for physicians-in-training, a letter from
their supervisor. Acceptance of the application will be notified
by e-mail within July 31.
Fees:
As only a very limited number of single rooms are available at
the cloister, applicants will be mainly lodged in double or triple
rooms. Fees per person, including full board and all educational
materials, are:
€ 900.00 (triple room); € 1,100.00 (double room); €
1,200.00 (single room)
EULAR Scholarships: EULAR will offer up to ten
scholarships to attend this course, covering registration, accommodation
and full board. Preference will be given to European young rheumatologists
(age below 40) or rheumatology trainees, coming from countries
with relevant educational and financial needs. No more than one
scholarship per center will be awarded. Applications (short CV,
letters of recommendation and reasons to request support) must
be sent to the EULAR secretariat no later than July 15th, 2005.
